Net Zero Energy

For many years, I have had a significant interest in energy efficiency. I and my life-partner upgraded our 1960s home on Long Island to be Net-Zero Energy (or near Net Zero most years!).  It is not easy to retrofit an old home to be net-zero and I have spent innumerable hours to research & make this transition, learning a lot about “building science”. Our house has 4 solar systems. The first system that I installed was a building integrated system of roof tiles rather than the regular solar panels. At the time of installation, it was the first full roof residential retrofit of solar tiles on the east coast of the USA (and the largest residential retrofit of solar PV tiles in the USA). Our house also has geothermal heating, super-insulated quadruple pane windows, beefed up insulation, cork-floors, computer monitor systems.

Over the years, several media outlets featured our house and a few years ago, NBC included our home in its Green Week program. Also, on the 1st Saturday of October, during National Tour Day; a national educational event, hundreds of visitors come to our home where we show them the energy efficient features of the house and educate them about the benefits of transitioning to an efficient home.

Here is my web site that is dedicated to the house (not as updated as I would like, but there are only so many hours in a day)!
